Katharina Holzinger, PhD
holds the Chair of International Relations and Conflict Management at the University of Konstanz since 2007. In 1993, she completed her PhD in Political Science at the University of Augsburg. Afterwards, she was a senior research fellow at the Social Science Research Center (WZB) in Berlin (1993-1997) and at the Max-Planck-Project Group for the Study of Common Goods in Bonn (1998-2003). In 2002/2003 she was Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. From 2004 to 2007 she held a Chair of Government at University of Hamburg and acted as Director at the Centre for Globalisation and Governance.

The main research interest of Prof. Holzinger is in the theory of political decision-making and conflict resolution. She applies these theories in particular to the analysis of international cooperation and regimes, and to decision-making and constitution-building in the European Union. She uses mostly, but not exclusively, the theoretical framework of rational choice. Her past empirical work has often dealt with environmental policy. Current research projects are dealing with the convergence and change of environmental policies, and with the evolution of the European constitution.

Christoph Knill, PhD is Chair of Comparative Public Policy and Administration at the University of Konstanz. His main research interests lie in the areas of comparative policy analysis and comparative public administration. In this context, his main focus is on policy-making in the European Union, the analysis of processes of international policy convergence and policy diffusion, as well as research on policy implementation. With regard to these topics, his major thematic interest is on environmental, education and transport policies.

Prof. Knill has published numerous articles in international journals. His most important book publications include The Europeanization of National Administrations: Patterns of Institutional Change and Persistence (Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press 2001), Cross-National Policy Convergence: Causes, Concepts and Empirical Findings (London, Routledge, 2006), Environmental Politics in the European Union: Policy-making, Implementation and Patterns of Multilevel Governance.(Manchester: Manchester University Press, 2007, with Duncan Liefferink) and Environmental Policy Convergence in Europe? The Impact of International Institutions and Trade (Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 2008 (with Katharina Holzinger and Bas Arts).
