International Consortium for Disaster Resilience
At the closing session of the 7th Annual Workshop of the SFU-based JCPA and ICPA-Forum, on Designing Disaster Resilience and Public Policy held at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 23-24, 2010, the participants from six nations proposed the initiation of a Consortium for Comparative Studies of Disaster Resilience (CSDR), under the comparative policy studies mission and affiliated with the International Comparative Policy Analysis-Forum. At this time it will involve the following insitutions, the University of Pittsburgh , Simon Fraser University through the ICPA-Forum, Kobe University, Japan, Nanjing University, China, and Bandung Insitutue of Technology , Indonesia. Winners Announced...!
2008 Best Comparative Paper Presented at an APPAM Research Conference
We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2008 ‘Best Comparative Paper Presented at an APPAM Research Conference’. The decision by the APPAM-ICPA-Forum Joint Adjudication Committee was unanimous:
“The Effect of Same-Sex Marriage Laws on Different-Sex Marriage:
Evidence from the Netherlands”
Mircea Trandafir (Sherbrooke, Quebec)
The paper was first presented in November 2008 at the 30th APPAM Research Conference in Los Angeles. The Award will be presented to the author at the 31st APPAM Research Conference in Washington, D.C. in November 2009. ICPA-Forum will hold a reception honoring the author. The paper was one of 32 comparative papers short listed. The JCPA Aims and Scope and its Six Criteria of comparative policy scholarship were used for the selection.
Initiation of Continental Research Symposia
The ICPA-Forum has initiated an annual international research symposia, in addition to the annual ICPA-Forum Workshops. This effort promotes the dialogue on comparative policy analytic studies by continental research networks interested in initiating collabortaive comparative policy analysis research and/or dissemination of comparative research findings. The individual symposiums' will, among others, seek to facilitate comparative research reports, finalize research design, further tool development, initiate research consortia, and so on. The results may be disseminated, for instance, by ICPA-Forum workshops, monographs, or a Special Issue of the JCPA.
ICPA-Forum at APPAM Conference
Alison Earle (McGill) and Jody Heymann (Harvard) received their award for Best JCPA Article 2006. We thank APPAM for their Acknowledgment of the JCPA contribution to international comparative policy studies in the APPAM Research Conference Program (November 7-10, 2007), and appreciate their international vision.
APPAM & ICPA-Forum Awards
APPAM & ICPA-Forum collaborate to offer a new "Best Comparative Paper Presented at an APPAM Research Conference". Beginning with the 2007 Fall Research Conference, the APPAM & ICPA-Forum joint Committee will be selecting a conference paper in comparative policy analysis for recognition. This award is sponsored by the ICPA-Forum and the Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis. To be eligible for the award, a paper must be submitted and accepted for presentation at the 2007 Fall Research Conference.
